Greetings Parents/Guardians of Kindergarten Students!
During the start of your student’s kindergarten year, usually within the 1st 10 days of school, the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) assigned to your student’s building/grade level may choose to conduct a brief screening of speech and/or language skills for every child in kindergarten to determine if further evaluation or 6 month re-screening is necessary.
If you do not wish for your child to participate in the universal speech and/or language screening, you must contact the school SLP prior to the screening occurring to let them know you are choosing for your student to opt out of the universal screening. If you do not contact the SLP and the SLP chooses to conduct a universal screening, your child will participate and you will be notified of the results/recommendations stemming from the screening.
This letter serves as prior notification that a universal grade level screening may occur within the first 10 days of the 2019-20 school year.
Sincerely,
Peoria Public Schools Speech-Language Pathologists
